Latino rhinoplasty is any cosmetic or functional surgery that specifically addresses the unique characteristics of the Latino or Hispanic nose. It is performed to create a more pleasing nose shape and size for patients of Hispanic descent, but without compromising the unique facial characteristics that distinguish their racial identity and heritage.
The term Latino or Hispanic refers to people of different origins and cultures with Spanish or Portuguese roots, including Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Mexicans, and more. Due to the varying distinctions between these ethnicities and their inherent facial characteristics, a targeted rhinoplasty is required to produce the most desirable results.
Latin Americans are a large group composed of different ethnicities, with different common nasal concerns. Latino or Hispanic patients typically have thick nasal skin and a bulbous tip, while others have wider nostrils or a broad nasal bridge. Such nuances make it necessary to seek an individualized rhinoplasty procedure that takes your facial anatomy and ethnicity into consideration to ensure the most optimum outcome.
Apart from possible functional issues, Latino rhinoplasty specifically addresses the following concerns:
A successful Latino rhinoplasty is one that artfully improves the aesthetic appearance of the patient’s nose while carefully preserving the distinctive facial characteristics of their ethnic heritage. This is achieved through meticulous artistry, unparalleled surgical skill, and a complete understanding of the different types of Latino noses, as well as the distinguishing facial features of each ethnicity.

Establishing proper communication during the preoperative stage is essential to achieving your desired outcome. Dr. Sedgh is well-known for his ability to make patients feel comfortable and at ease, which helps make the initial consultation a more efficient and productive meeting. During your first consultation, he will take the time to listen to your surgery goals, examine your areas of concern, and provide an in-depth explanation of the surgery and the techniques involved.
Here are some of the other things you can also expect from your initial consultation:
For those who cannot come in for a consultation, Dr. Sedgh also offers virtual consultations via video conferencing. Should you decide to undergo the procedure under his care, his office can also assist you in making the necessary travel arrangements for the surgery.
With skills and expertise acquired from two decades of medical training in the fields of head and neck surgery and facial plastic surgery, Dr. Sedgh combines surgical precision and artistry to carefully mold your nasal structure to meet the desired aesthetic and functional outcome. This results in a more refined yet natural-looking nose that promotes balance and harmony with the rest of your facial features.
One of two techniques can be utilized in performing any type of cosmetic or functional rhinoplasty—the closed (endonasal) approach and the open (external) approach. There are also a variety of anesthetic options that can be utilized for the procedure, including local anesthesia, IV sedation, and general anesthesia. Based on the complexity of the surgery and the surgical enhancements required, Dr. Sedgh will select the most optimum approach and anesthetic option for your needs.
Closed rhinoplasty is performed through small incisions inside the nostrils, through which the inner nasal structure will be adjusted to achieve the desired result. This technique is often preferred by patients as it leaves no visible scarring, but it is only recommended for minor enhancements due to the limited view that it provides the surgeon.
For cases that require major cosmetic or reconstructive alterations, an open rhinoplasty is considered the ideal route. It allows maximum visibility of the internal nasal structure, which means that any enhancements that require the utmost precision can be performed with complete accuracy.
To perform this technique, a small incision will be made along the columella, or the tissue that connects the nostrils. The skin will then be lifted up to provide optimum access to the nasal framework underneath.
Dr. Sedgh may also use tip refinement, alarplasty, cartilage grafts, and a variety of other techniques to further improve the appearance of the nose.
Rhinoplasty is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, which mean you will able to go home on the same day of the surgery. You may experience some nasal congestion, localized swelling and bruising, and minor discomfort or pain immediately after the surgery, which is why you will be prescribed over-the-counter medications and a special aftercare plan to help ease these symptoms and to facilitate a more comfortable recovery.
Normally, patients are able to resume work about 1 to 2 weeks after the surgery. However, this timeline will vary depending on the extent of your surgery and other individual factors.
Even in this final stage of your surgical journey, Dr. Sedgh strives to provide ample care and support to ensure an optimal recovery. This is why he will be personally monitoring your post-op progress through regularly scheduled follow-up appointments, beginning on the first postoperative day up to a year after your surgery, or more.
I don’t think it is an overstatement to say that Dr. Sedgh was a godsend to me for his willingness to do surgery on my nose when several notable surgeons refused to take on the task of correcting the damage that three previous surgeries had done. Dr. Sedgh clearly has an artistic eye as well as a very professional ability at nose surgery. He has earned my trust and respect.
