For those who are unhappy about the size or shape of their nose, rhinoplasty has long been the only solution. However, as an invasive surgical procedure with a lengthy recovery, rhinoplasty isn’t for everyone.

Thankfully, liquid rhinoplasty (also known as non-surgical rhinoplasty) is now a commonly performed procedure that offers patients another choice regarding rhinoplasty treatment. But what is liquid rhinoplasty?

If you want to know more about this procedure and whether it’s a viable alternative to traditional rhinoplasty, here’s what you need to know…

What is liquid rhinoplasty?

Liquid rhinoplasty is a procedure that uses injectable fillers to shape and contour the nose.

Often used to correct minor to moderate cosmetic issues such as a crooked structure, dorsal humps, indentations or other deformities, it can also be a good way to make slight adjustments following surgical rhinoplasty if the patient is not entirely satisfied with the results.

Liquid rhinoplasty is far more cost effective than a surgical nose job, and unlike traditional rhinoplasty which is quite invasive, liquid rhinoplasty is only minimally invasive with patients typically able to resume normal activities within a day.

Is liquid rhinoplasty permanent?

The main downside of liquid rhinoplasty is that the results are only temporary, with the filler gradually dissolving over time.

While permanent fillers can be used for liquid rhinoplasty, they’re generally not recommended. Not only is there no guarantee that the patient will be happy with the long-term results of the procedure, but removing them is a very difficult and complex procedure. For patients seeking a permanent solution, we would generally recommend a traditional rhinoplasty.

How long does a liquid rhinoplasty last?

The longevity of a liquid rhinoplasty will depend on the type of filler used. Most fillers dissolve between 6 to 10 months. Fillers with a more robust consistency (such as Juvederm or Restylane) which typically last up to 12 months are generally the most suitable options for liquid rhinoplasty.

How long does swelling last after liquid rhinoplasty?

While the recovery following liquid rhinoplasty is very minimal compared to traditional rhinoplasty, it is still common for patients to experience some minor swelling immediately following their procedure.

Any swelling usually subsides within a couple of days, but in some cases, it can take up to one week. Regularly applying a cold compress to the nose can help any swelling to subside quickly.
